Technical Services Customer Stories
Name: Bob Davidovich
Title: General Manager
Facility: Homeland Non-Profit (79 units), Windsor, Ontario
The issue:
We had an ongoing plumbing/technical infrastructure problem, originating from the faulty design, inferior materials and inaccessibility and compounded by extensive wear. Having only limited capital budgets and limited SHRRP funding we needed a solution that would provided us maximum solution value given resources we had at our disposal.
I found out about the Technical Service Program from the mailing SHSC sent out together with the appliance purchase program details. And so I decided to give them a call.
Our Experience:
SHSC Technical Services Representative Jay Charendoff gathered all of the relevant information and was able to come up with solutions we had not even thought about
he provided out-of-box alternatives that were specific and doable. He prioritized our plans, with most crucial items being specified along with the alternate options and then other lower level priorities being left to be done with remaining money.
The Results:
Jay provided us with optimum solutions that will provide us with the maximum bang for the limited dollars we have available to solve the lingering and most complicated problem. In due time the work will be fully executed as envisioned by Jay.
I would highly recommend SHSC Technical Services. Given that you have experienced analysts such as Jay, you can provide a fresh look at solutions that may not have been considered and are a good source of second opinion if nothing more.

Title: President, Board of Directors
Facility: Hensall Senior Citizens’ Homes, Northcrest (19 units), Hensall, Ontario
The situation:
Northcrest was erected some 28 years ago, and although it has been exceptionally well maintained and very gently lived in by the tenants, we are starting to see the need for more in-depth repairs and maintenance
Our Experience:
Although well-intentioned, we as a board do not have the technical expertise to critically evaluate our facility and identify some of the less obvious ways by which we can ensure the extended life of the building and perhaps even realize increased economies in our operating costs.
We were introduced to your organization last fall through a workshop sponsored by Huron County Social Housing Services, and this January we had an opportunity to avail ourselves of your expertise by way of a site inspection.
It is reassuring to know that a service such as yours is available to us – and others in the province who may be in similar circumstances.
We will, no doubt, have upcoming projects for which we will require guidance, and we look forward to working with you again.

Title: Executive Assistant, YWCA Sudbury
Facility: 10-unit apartment building
The situation:
SHRRP money awarded to replace and upgrade access system, but needed help with next steps.
Our Experience:
When YWCA Sudbury was awarded a grant through SHRRP to replace and upgrade an Access System for a ten-unit apartment building, we contacted Social Housing Services Corporation.
Shortly thereafter, a one on one consultation was scheduled with one of the SHSC Technical Services’ experts. With the expertise and knowledge of the SHSC representative, we were able to establish the scope of the project, publish a call for tender, develop a tendering package, and award the contract in a very short time frame. His professionalism and sensitivity to the project’s needs were greatly appreciated. Thanks to SHSC’s guidance and support, work on the project will begin within the next two weeks.
We have recently been awarded another grant through SHRRP for two other large projects and hope to have the opportunity to work with your group once again.
