Pesticides Act

The Pesticides Act outlines the framework within which pesticides are regulated in Ontario. The Act, together with its regulations, restricts the sale, use, transportation, storage and disposal of pesticides. The performance of pest exterminations in structures requires a license (subsection 5(1) of the Act), with some very limited exceptions (sections 56 to 61 of Regulation 914). Housing providers will want to ensure that exterminators hired by them are properly licensed for the type of exterminations they are performing (structural exterminations are regulated by sections 30 to 61 of Regulation 914) and are properly insured (section 20 of Regulation 914). Current information on classified pesticides can be found at the Ontario Pesticides Advisory Committee website.
