Mental Health Act

The Mental Health Act regulates psychiatric facilities in Ontario and governs how people may be admitted to such facilities and subsequently released into the community. The Act also regulates how the mental health records of patients of psychiatric facilities are kept and accessed, and how the financial affairs of the patients are managed. This Act applies to housing providers who operate a facility for the observation, care and treatment of persons suffering from mental disorder that has been designated a “psychiatric facility” by the Minister of Health and Long-term Care.
