SHSC Group Insurance Coverages

Core Coverages

All group insurance participants have access to the following core coverages:

  • Property
    (buildings, contents, rental income and extra expense)
  • Boiler and Machinery
    (also known as equipment breakdown insurance)
  • Commercial General Liability
    (limit $2M)
  • Umbrella Liability
    (tops up liability insurance to $5M limit)
  • Directors and Officers Liability
    Including Employment Practices Liability
  • Miscellaneous Errors & Omissions
    (e.g. nurses, social workers, family counsellors, massage therapists, physiotherapists)
  • Property Managers Errors & Omissions
  • Comprehensive Crime

Additional Coverages

All participants have the option of purchasing the following additional coverages:

  • Miscellaneous Errors & Omissions including Medical Malpractice Coverage
    Coverage has been broadened to include losses resulting from the rendering of, or the failure to render, professional services by registered nurses, nurse practitioners, registered practicing nurses and registered nursing assistants.
  • Property Managers Errors & Omissions
    Coverage for your corporation’s activities as a property manager for other housing providers for a fee.
  • Automobile Insurance
    Basic and optional coverage for vehicle loss or damage and additional third-party liability.
  • Environmental Liability Coverage
    Protects owners and/or operators of aboveground and underground storage tank systems against potential claims should the tanks cause environmental contamination.
  • Abuse Insurance
    Protects against liability due to physical abuse/neglect, emotional abuse, sexual abuse/harassment or exploitation.
  • Accident Coverage for Board Members and Volunteers
    Accidental Death & Dismemberment Coverage.
  • Cyber Fraud Insurance
    Provides liability coverage arising from the operation and maintenance of your website.
  • Builders Risk Insurance
    Coverage for construction, renovation, installation, repair, scaffolding, hoarding, excavation, landscaping and site problems, that are beyond the scope of the limited existing property insurance.
  • Well Water Coverage
    The Ontario Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002 imposes strict requirements on providers to test and treat tenants' water. Well water liability coverage protects you against claims made by a third party as a result of inadequate testing, whether it is done by you, or a company you hire.
  • Garage Keepers Legal Liability Insurance
    Protects garage keepers against liability for damage caused by specified perils to vehicles in their care and control.
  • Pesticides Coverage
    Protects you if you spray the premises with pesticides and someone becomes ill as a result, as long as you comply with the Ontario Pesticides Act. This coverage does not cover third parties who perform a service for you under contract.
  • Punitive Damages Coverage
    Provides coverage under the Directors & Officers Liability policy to pay punitive damages awarded by a court for wrongful acts committed by a Director or Officer of the corporation.
